In Dora and the Lost City of Gold, child explorer Dora might not have a whip or a fedora, but she carries the right gear and brings more scientific accuracy to the screen than most big-budget adventurers, says paleoanthropologist Ella Al-Shamahi to the New Scientist.
"Of every single film based in archeology, paleoanthropology, anthropology I have ever seen in my life, Dora the Explorer did the best job of representing the science."
She continues.
"From beginning to end she's incredible respectful of indigenous local people to the point where she actually has fun with it. What they're doing is quite old school. So, they're kind on the ground looking at old maps. So yeah, who knew? Dora the Explorer"
The live-action movie based on the Nickelodeon series is a success, or in Ella Al-Shamahi words: For a kid show it was brilliant.
